SM-2 scheduling · 13 languages

Anki’s brain.
Without Anki’s afternoon.

The same SM-2 algorithm, the same four grades, the same ruthless scheduling that made spaced repetition work. What’s gone is the part where you spend Saturday building the deck — Language Flash generates cards in your target language and drops them straight into the queue.

250 cards free, no card required. Premium unlocks the unlimited deck and the AI drills.

Try it — these are the real intervals.

For people who already know why spaced repetition works

SM-2The real algorithm

Ease factor starts at 2.50 and moves with every answer. Again drops it 0.20, Hard 0.15, Easy lifts it 0.15, floored at 1.30. Intervals compound off it exactly as they should.

4Grades, not guesses

Again / Hard / Good / Easy — with the resulting interval printed on each button before you commit, so you always know what a press costs you.

1–4Keys, and space

Space flips, 1 through 4 grade, U undoes. Your hands never leave the keyboard, and a hundred-card queue goes down in one sitting.

The deck fills itself. You just answer.

Every card you meet anywhere in the app lands in the same SM-2 queue. Nothing is a separate silo, and nothing needs formatting.

Discover

A swipe deck of generated vocabulary and phrases on any theme you name. Swipe right and the word enters your review queue due immediately.

Review

The heart of it. Due cards, sorted most-overdue first, graded with four keys. Learning cards come back in ten minutes; mature ones vanish for months.

Conjugation drills

Pick a verb and a set of tenses, get five fill-in-the-blank sentences, and have every answer marked — including the near-misses where only an accent is wrong.

Grammar sets

Eight multiple-choice questions pitched at a CEFR level from A1 to C2, with an explanation of the rule behind every answer you missed.

Diary

Write freely in your target language and get corrections, an improved version, and a note on what you already did well.

Photo vocab

Point a camera at your kitchen. Every object comes back named in your target language, ready to save as cards.

What you keep, what you drop

We are not pretending Anki is bad. It is the best in the world at what it does. It is also a lot of work before your first review.

Common questions

What is Language Flash?
A spaced repetition app for language learners. It runs the SM-2 algorithm over flashcards it generates for you in 13 languages, and adds conjugation drills, CEFR grammar sets, writing feedback and photo vocabulary on top.
Is it the same algorithm as Anki?
It is SM-2, the scheduler Anki shipped for most of its history: ease starts at 2.50, Again applies −0.20, Hard −0.15, Easy +0.15, floored at 1.30, with intervals of 1 day then 6 days then interval × ease. Anki now also offers FSRS, which Language Flash does not yet implement.
Is Language Flash free?
The full review engine is free forever, including all 13 languages and up to 250 saved cards. Premium is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year and adds unlimited cards plus the AI drills and feedback.
Which languages can I learn?
Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Russian, Dutch, Turkish and Hindi. Each keeps its own deck and review history.
Do I have to make my own flashcards?
No. Name a theme — "at the dentist", "startup jargon", "food and cooking" — and the app generates cards in your target language with glosses in yours. You can also add your own cards by hand.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. There are iOS and Android apps that share the same account, deck and review history as the web app, so a card saved on one is due on the other.
